I walk in from time to time to check on her thru the night. Her daddy lays in a chair right beside her. They both look so peaceful. I make my way back to the waiting room and gather my pillow and try to go back to sleep. I lay there thinking of where she is now.  All the nurses and doctors didn’t believe that she was going to make it passed the 2nd day because of so much trauma, fractures and extensive surgery to her head. They say she is a fighter and determination is going to get her thru this. I thought to myself, we all know that.  My comment is always the same…. God is good, he is so good. Prayer is so powerful. God’s got a plan for her and he is going to use her any way he can. He gets all of the glory. Scott and I wait patiently every minute of every day. It is very hard sometimes, but we hold tight to our faith. The more we hold on to it, the more he keeps showing us his wonder working powers.

The trauma physician comes in and says her lung has healed on its own. (Praise God) She will not need to get the chest tube back in. Her lungs are doing much better.

The “Hand Specialist” came in to discuss his plan. This doctor specializes in small bones. The surgery is now moved to noon. She will be going to the operating room and will be intubated again. He says it will take about 45 minutes for the actual surgery. It will take a total time of about 2 hours or so before she get back to her room.

A speech therapist came in this morning while we await for the surgery of her hand. No breakfast this morning because she had to be NPO (nothing by mouth) after midnight last night. P Nut worked so hard to make her voice come out. She is mouthing words, but still no voice. She had a lot of trauma to her chest and abdomen and it is very difficult to push air up thru her vocal cords. We are not sure if they are damaged or not at this time.

She is now asleep, while we await for surgery.

It’s noon, and the hand surgeon arrives. He shows me the x ray of all of her little bones in her left hand. He begins to tell me about his plan for the screws and pins that he will place in each bone. The operating room nurses surround her bed. She reaches over towards me and starts to cry. I came straight over and held her hand. She pulled me close and looked at me with her teary eyes. I told her that it was ok and I was going to be right here. She mouthed “Don’t go”. I reassured her that I wasn’t going to leave her. I held on to her while they gave her some sleeping medicine. She soon drifted off to sleep…………. Her bed was unlocked and ready to roll. One nurse at her side, one at her head and the other at her feet. All three nurses rolled her down the hall while I followed behind. We all patiently wait for the doors to open. I made my way around to tell her that I will be right here and to not to be scared. She nodded her head “yes.” She puckered her lips and gave me a big kiss. The doors opened and they rolled her right in. I stand there looking only at her eyes. I smiled and waved. The doors closed and I stood there with my head bent down. She’s in God’s hands, like she’s been all along. I walked back to her empty room and will wait there until she returns.

It’s after 3 pm and one of the OR nurses call to say that the surgery went well and it will be about an hour before she comes up. We wait patiently until she arrives. We hear the sound of the bed rolling down the hall. There she is………….. all sleepy eyed and tucked in her bed. Her hand wrapped so gently with a thick elastic wrap. There will be no cast yet. This will come at a later time.  She looks around and ponders for a while. She starts to mouthing “it hurts” time and time again. She starts to cry and we can not comfort her.  The nurse takes all of her vital signs and begins to give her something for the pain. She places warming blankets on her to keep her warm. She will rest until dinner comes around.

She soon awakes and looks around the room. Her daddy at one side and me on the other. Dinner is here. Lets see what she will eat, chicken and gravy. Her daddy gets her ready and he feeds her one bite. She ate more tonight than she has any night. Probably because she hadn’t ate anything since yesterday evening. She had a big appetite. Kristen becomes tired and soon drifts off to sleep.
